Dubai 100 : Meet the 100 people you need to know in the Emirate

Dubai 100 people
Source : Arabian Business reveals the most powerful 100 people in Dubai
Dubai is an international, cosmopolitan, and remarkably successful city, home to some of the world’s greatest thought leaders, thinkers, and business people.

It is no surprise, therefore, that ranking just 100 people in Dubai is a difficult task. While it’s important to state that no singular list could capture in one snapshot the entirety of Dubai’s most powerful leaders, this list has sought to mark the most inspirational and influential from among the emirate’s elite.

Compiled by the editorial board of Arabian Business, this list represents a power ranking of those 100 people at the very top of Dubai.

The list includes some expected, and unexpected, names, and is as diversified as Dubai’s very own business and lifestyle ecosystem.

Here are the 100 people you need to know in Dubai:

Name: Pavel Durov
Designation: Founder
Company: Telegram
Industry: Technology

With a net worth valued at $15.1 billion, Durov became known as Russia’s Mark Zuckerberg after he launched Vkontakte, Russia’s biggest social network at age 22. He then launched Telegram in 2013, an instant messaging service/app that supports end-to-end encryption
for messages, video, and audio calls.

With a reported 700 million active users, it has bypassed Whatsapp usage in Russia, according to Vedomosti, accounting for 60 to 80 percent of total traffic exchanged in Russia from the start of 2023. And while Vkontakte made Durov a wildly popular tech celebrity, it triggered friction within the Kremlin. He fled Russia in 2014 after refusing to cooperate with the Russian secret service to provide encrypted data of his first social network’s users.

He shifted himself and Telegram headquarters to Dubai in 2017. In early February 2021, he received UAE citizenship, making Durov a citizen of four countries.

Amongst his many achievements at Eltizam, Roberts’ inclusive leadership brought about fundamental changes within the Group, setting in motion a relentless upward trajectory. When Roberts joined in 2014 as Group CEO, the company consisted of one business operating one contract with 150 employees. Under his vision, today Eltizam has a footprint across six countries with over eight business entities, employing over 6,500 staff across 30 nationalities and witnessing c.70 percent+ growth in 2022.

Steering Eltizam’s strategic restructuring in 2021, Roberts established four holding companies within the Group, namely EAMG Holdings, iFM Holdings, iREC Holdings and EAST-O Holdings to further focus onto strategic markets and business lines. He also led successful acquisitions of several companies, including OrionTEK Innovations, Fixis Technical Services, Kingfield Owners Association Management and Falcon Investments (the affiliate partner that has traded as Colliers in the MENA region since 1995). In the same year, Eltizam expanded its operations into Egypt with plans to further extend its reach to nine countries by the end of 2023.
